DESCRIPTION
The first Mannheim tram line opened in 1878 (horse tram) and it was totally electrified in 1902. From its beginning the Mannheim tram system is fully integrated with the Ludwigshafen one, constituting an unique network (that currently consists in 13 lines).
In Ludwigshafen the latest tram extensions opened in 1969 (Hauptbahnhof-Ostausgang), 1971 (Mannheim-Dalbergstrasse), 1976 (Hauptbahnhof-Rathaus-Hemshofstrasse); Hemshofstrasse-Hauptbahnhof-Sudwest Stadion section closed in 2008.
In Mannheim the latest extensions opened in 2005 (Neuostheim-SAP Arena-Rangierbahnhof/ARENA Maimarkt) and 2006 (Uniklinikum-Alte Feuerwache; Planetarium-Fahrlach-SAP Arena).
