Venice
The first section (Mestre Sernaglia-Favaro Monte Celo) of a modern pubblic transport network (tram-on-tyres, Translohr technology) opened on 20 December 2010. Once completed, the whole system will connect Marghera, Mestre, Favaro and Venice; the system is articulated in 2 lines:
- line 1 Favaro-Mestre town center (interchange with line 2)-Venice;
- line 2 Marghera-Mestre town center.
An underground section will allow to overtake the barrier constituted by Mestre railway station; this tunnel will assure an efficient interchange with line 2 and the ordinary bus network.
After the completion of the first 2 lines (2015), some long period extensions are considered: Favaro-Tessera (Marco Polo Airport) and a new branch in gallery below the sea ("galleria sublagunare", Tessera-Murano-Ospedale-Arsenale).
