Valencia
Valencia metro derivates from the upgrade of some local railways, brought into the urban area.
Line 1 (13.4 km long, from Empalme to Torrent) concept is the linkage of northern and southern railways tracks with an urban metro section between Empalme and Torrent (comprising a 6.7 km long underground segment between Empalme and S. Isidre).
Line 3 opened in 1995 with an initial underground segment from Palmaret to Alameda (3 km), which was extended in 1998 up to Avenida del Cid (3.2 km). Further extensions were completed in 1999 (2.4 km western branch Mislata Almassil) and 2007 (Mislata Almassil-Airport).
Line 5 shares a part of the track with Line 3 (Alameda-Aeroport) and Line 1 (Jesus-Torrent). The first segment of this line opened in 1998 in order to connect Line 1 to Line 3 (Colon-Jesus, 2.4 Km). Another underground section opened in 2003 (Alameda-Ayora, 2.3 km), followed by Bailen stop (2005) and Ayora-Maritim Serreria segment (2007).
The whole system is completed by some tram lines. T4 line opened in 1994 connecting Empalme (Ademuz) to Pont de Fusta along Pont de Fusta-Grao pre-existing railway line. Extensions occurred in 1999 (branch to TVV and the exhibition center, also serving the university campus), 2005 (extension to the agglomeration of Paterna, with a double terminus at Mas del Rosari and Terramelar). T5 opened in 2007 running from Maritim Serreria (metro line 5 eastern terminus) to Neptù; it also serves Plaza de l'Armada Espanyola. Line 6 (Tossal del Rei-Maritim Serreria) opened in 2007 as well; it shares Pont de Fusta-Doctor Lluch section with T4. Another line (T2) is under construction along a north-south route connecting Tavernes Blanques, Orriols (Stadium), the city centre and the science district; it will have an important underground segment (Pont de Fusta-Gral. Urrutia/Av. de la Plata).
