Sassari
Sassari transport network is based on the railway station, which is the main terminal of some FS railway lines (to Porto Torres, Olbia and Cagliari via Chilivani) and some local FdS local railways (to Alghero, Sorso and Nulvi Tempio-Palau).
A new LRT system opened in 2006 (Stazione FS-Emiciclo Garibaldi section), followed by Stazione FS-Santa Maria di Pisa section on September 2009; this section uses the existing metric gauge tracks of the Sassari-Sorso railway line. One of the main goals of the new system is to adapt the existing local railways infrastructures, to be shared by local trains and LRT cars; a further extension is currently plannned (Santa Maria di Pisa-Li Punti), while some others are considerated (extensions to Alghero, Fertilia, etc.).
