Metro Prague (1)

Metro Prague (2)
Prague
The Prague metro is articulated in 3 lines (50 km), with the classical eastern Europe scheme (3 radial lines forming a triangle in the city center, with 3 interchange stops at the apexis); the decision in favour of a traditional metro instead of a pre-metro system was assumed only during the initial works (years '60s). The fist section (Florenc-Kacerov) of the first line (line C, 18.1 km, 17 stops) opened in 1974 and it was subsequently extended in various phases (1980: Kacerov-Haje November; 1984: Florenc-Nadrazi; 2004: Nadrazi Holesovice-Ladvi; 2008: Ladvi-Letnany). The first line was followed by Dejvicka-Namesti Miru section in 1978 (part of line A, 11 km, 13 stops) which was completed successively (1980: Namesti Miru-Zelivskeho; 1987: Zelivskeho-Strasnicka; 1990: Strasnicka-Skalka; 2006: Skalka-Depo Hostivar). The last line (line C, 25.6 km, 24 stops) opened in 1985 with Florenc-Smichovske Nadrazia segment, lengthened in 1988 (Smichovske Nadrazi-Nove Butovice), 1990 (Florenc-Ceskomoravska), 1994 (Nove Butovice-Zlicin), 1998 (Ceskomoravska-Cerny Most) and 2008 (Ladvi-Letnany).
A fourth line (line D, driverless) should be realized in order to connect the railway station (Hlavni Nadrazi) to Nusle, Krc, Libus and Pisnice southern suburbs, with a possible further construction phase from Pisnice to Basilejske Namesti. A double extension of line A (at both terminals) is also expected; the northern extension could be particularly remarkable, reaching Ruzyne International Airport.
