Ploiesti is an important oil and petroleum industry centrum; local economy has been relaunched starting from the end of years '80s, with the development of new sectors (like the texile) and with massive investments by foreign industrial groups (i.e. Lukoil). In 1987 a tram network (2 lines, with a total length of 24 km) has integrated the existing local public transport offer (bus and trolleybus); the whole system carries about 70 millions pax/year.
