PALERMO
Palermo
The local transport Masterplan (Piano Integrato di Trasporto Pubblico) make provision for a network based on an automated metro line (north-south, in the city center), a local railway ring (underground) and 3 tramway lines (named Roccella, Leonardo da Vinci and Calatafimi) to connect suburban districts to the central areas.
The driverless light metro should run mostly north-south, passing through the city center; the first phase will consist in via Oreto-Notarbartolo section (6.5 km).
The tramway system is currently under construction to be opened in 2011; it will be based on the following lines: line 1 also named Roccella line (from Roccella to Stazione Centrale, about 5 km long) line 2 also named Leonardo da Vinci line (from Borgo Nuovo to Stazione Centrale, about 5 km long), line 3 also named Michelangelo-CEP-svincolo Calatafimi line (first phase CEP-svincolo Calatafimi, about 6 km long).
