Nurnmberg
Nurnmberg built in the years '60-'70 an U-Bahn metro system; in 1972 the first line (U1) opened, with a partially underground track.
Between 1978 and 1984 the southern branch of the second line (U2) was completed up to Rothenbach, while the northern branch followed in 1996 (up to Herrnhutte), extended in 1999 up to Flughafen Airport. U2 is totally underground, with 2 interchange points with U1 at Plarrer and Hauptbahnhof (2 levels stations). Other important interchanges points between U2 and the ground level railways are located at Nordostbahnhof, Hauptbahnhof, Rothenburger Strasse and Schweinau. Works for a total automation of U2 were completed on January 2010.
A third line (U3, first section Gustav Adolf Strasse-Maxfeld) opened on 15 June 2008; U3 is totally automated and shares 3.5 km track and 6 stops with U2. Maxfeld-Friedrich Ebert Platz extension opened on December 2011.
