Neaples
Neaples metro network consists in 3 lines; 2 of them are properly said metro lines (Line 1 and Line 6), while other 2 consists in urban branches of suburban railways (Line 2, Line 3).
Line 1 (named also as Metropolitana Collinare) runs from Piscinola to Dante; the first section Colli Aminei-Vanvitelli opened in 1993 and was extented in 1995 up to Piscinola, while in 2001-2002 the further a extension to Museo and Dante was completed. Vanvitelli-Salvator Rosa section runs in a curved gallery, with a 5.5% average gradient. Two more sections are currently under construction (Dante-Garibaldi railway station, Piscinola-Capodichino Airport), while in long term plans Line 1 track will be close into a 25 km long ring (thanks to the future Capodichino-Garibaldi section).
Line 6 connects the agglomerations of Fuorigrotta and Mergellina; its first section (Museo-Mergellina) opened in 2007. This line was built partly re-using some of the infrastructures of the so-called Linea Tranviaria Rapida, a LRT Line which had to be opened in occasion of Italia 90 Championhip but never completed. A western extension (Mergellina-Municipio) is under construction, while an eastern one is in advanced planning phase (Museo-Arsenale Militare depot).
