MULHOUSE-L1
Mulhouse
In Mulhouse the first 2 tram lines (Line 1, Line 2) opened in 2006. Line 1 and Line 2 interchange in the city center (Porte Jeune Europe) connecting the major urban polarities. The north-south line (Line 1) stops at the stadium, the expositions area and the railway station (Gare Centrale), while the east-west (Line 2) serves Palasport and the university. Some extensions are currently under consideration (Line 1: Chataignier-Wittenheim; Line 2: Nouveau Bassin-Jonquilles).
A third line (Line 3) opened on December 2010, running north-west from Gare Centrale to Lutterbach; from Gare Centrale to Porte Jeune Europe Line 3 shares part of the track with Line 1, from Porte Jeune Europe to Rond Point Stricker (located between Palasport and Daguerre) it shares part of the track with Line 2, while from Rond-Point Stricker it runs along an existing railway alignement up to Lutterbach.
Line 3 partly lays along a tram-train line alignement (opened as well in December 2010) which goes from Gare Centrale to Thann (to be extended up to Kruth in the next future). It shares parts of the track both with SFNC trains (Thann-Lutterbach) and with Line 3 tram cars (Lutterbach-Gare Centrale section). This kind of operations is possible thanks to the adoption of a dual voltage rolling stock (25 KV AC along the train section, 750 V DC along the Line 3 route).
