MONTPELLIER-L1
Montpellier
Montpellier opened its first tramway line (Line 1) on 30-06-2000.
Line 1 track starts in the western suburb of La Paillade running south-east to the depot area close to De la Mosson Stadium, passing through important business and residential areas (Antigone, Port-Marianne and Millenaire). Line 1 connects some of the most important urban zones, like De la Mosson Stadium, the university, the hospital, the railway station (Gares stop) and the medieval city center, besides Place de la Comedie and Millenarie complex. This first line was extended towards Odysseum shopping center on September 2009.
A second line opened on 16 December 2006, with a south-west/north-east track through the city center. Line 1 and 2 interchanges at Gares and Corum stops, and share another short section (2 stops) from Rives du Lez to Place de L'Europe. Along line 2 route, besides many interchange points with the ordinary bus network, there are many car parkings.
A third line (Line 3) opened on April 2012, running from Juvignac to Lattes, with an intermediate branch towards Perols. Line 3 will interchange with Line 1 and Line 2 at the main railway station (Gares stop) and with Line 1 at Port Marianne; there will be a short section in common with Line 2 (Gare Saint Roch-Nouveau Saint-Roch). At the same time a fourth line (Line 4: Saint Denis - Place Albert Ier) opened running along some sections of the first 3 line tracks, connecting them each other.
