(Germany ) MUNICH-U5
MunichMunich U-Bahn system was opened in 1971 and it currently consists in 6 lines (which coulb be divided in 3 groups: U1/U2, U3/U6, U4/U5 each one with part of the track in common) almost totally underground with the exception of 2 short teminal segments of U5 and U6; the whole network is more than 90 km long, with more than 300 millions passengers carried every year. U6 opened in 1971 (nort-south with current length: 27.4); it connects Garching (outside Munich) to Klinikum Glosshadern, partly in existing tunnels used by trams before its construction. U6 shares Munchen Freiheit-Implerstrasse section with U3; U3 (18.7 km) started its service in 1972 for the Olympic Games and currently goes from the Olympic area to Furstenried West terminal. It was extended from Olympia Einkaufszentrum to Moosach on December 2010. U2 (24.4 km) opened in 1980 starting from Felmoching (northern terminal and railways interchange point to the airport), joins U3 at Scheidplatz, proocede up to Munchen Hauptbahnhof where it share part of its track with U1 up to Kolumbusplatz, then it reaches Innsbrucker Ring (where it interchanges with U5) and terminate at Messestadt Ost.U1 (U2 "twin" line, 12.2 km long) was inaugurated in 1983 connecting Olympia-Einkaufszentrum to Mangfallplatz via Munchen Hauptbahnhof. U4 (as well as U5) opened in 1984; it's about 9.3 km long. U4 has a section in common with U5 (from to Westendstrasse to Max Weber Platz), connecting Westendstrasse and Arabellapark. Beside Odensplatz (U3/U6), U4 has other remarkable interchange stops at Westendstrasse, Munchen Hauptbahnhof and Heimeranplatz (all served by suburban railways). U5 (15.4 km) starts from Laimer Platz, then runs parallel to U4 from Westendstrasse to Max Weber Platz, where it turns east serving Ostbahnhof (suburban railways interchange stop), Innsbrucker Ring (U2 interchange stop) and Neuperlach Sud (other suburban railways interchange stop).
