Lausanne opened in 1991 M1 Line or T-Sol Line (Tramway du Sud-Ouest Lausannois), a modern LRT Line with an east-west main alignement. Line M1 connects Renens local railway station (in the western side) to Lausanne-Flon suburban railway station (in the eastern side), passing through the city center. The tram-type rolling stock mostly runs at grade segregated from road traffic (with priority at road crossings), with the exception of 2 short underground sections (at Mallley stop and from Vigie to Lausanne-Flon stops).
The transport network has been completed by an automated metro line (M2, Metro Ouchy) opened on 27 October 2008; M2 runs from Ouchy to Les Croisettes, with a railway interchange in the central section located at Gare CFF stop. The same line interchanges at Lausanne-Flon stop with both the other two main Lausanne transport systems (M1 and LEB Railway).
