LIBEREC
Liberec
Liberec region, in the area between Nisa and Kamenice rivers, has about 200.000 inhabitants, whose desplacements are currently 60% covered by public tranport.
One of the problems of the transport network is the rigid separation between suburban lines (railways and buses) and urban transports (in Hradek, Liberec, Jablonec); it suggested to introduce an integrated regional transport system (Regio Tram Nisa or RTN; first phase is called RTN-1) along the Hradek-Liberek-Jablonec route, by a renewal and an upgrade of existing tramways and local railways lines (new tracks, new segnalling systems, new stops); one of the sections (Prosec-Jablonec-Nisou Lower Railway-Jablonecke Paseky è) has been planned in tram-train mode with track sharing.
The whole project plans to extend (in different phases) the Liberec network up to Zittau (Germany) and Jelenia Gó (Poland), using existing regional tracks.
This innovative transport system combines national railways tracks (Hradec-Liberec, diesel), regional routes (Liberec-Prosec, diesel; Prosec-Jablonecke Paseky), and existing tramways (Liberec-Vratislavice; Vratislavice-Prosec; Jablonec Lower Railway Station-Jablonec Spa), each one with the same gauge but with proper characteristics (diesel/750 V DC power supply, single/double track).
These are some of the main works related to the project:
- Hradek-Liberec and Liberec-Jablonecke railways renewal, with new stops;
- adoption of standard gauge and double track in Fugnerova-Vratislavice and Railway Station-Fugnerova tramway sections (the latter with tram/train track sharing);
- adoption of standard gauge for Vratislavice-Prosec and Jablonec Lower Station-Jablonec Spa single track tramway sections;
- regional railway Prosec-Jablonecke Paseky electrification (750 V DC).
Rolling stock will be constituted by moder low floor dual vehicles.
