Kharkiv
The first plans for a metro system in Kharkiv have been considered since the beginning of XX century; however they couldn't be completely developed after 1934 (that time the capital moved from Kharkiv to Kiev) and they were furthermore delayed by the II world war and its heavy damages. Metro plans were recovered only during years '60s, when a remarkable demographic growt brought the old surface tram network near to the saturation. In 1975 Kholodnogorsko-Zavodskaya (now simply named Kholodnogorskaya) line opened, after 7 years of works; Kholodnogorskaya is currently 17.3 km long with 13 stops. In two decades, the first line was followed by other two (Saltovskaya: 1984, currently 10.3 km long; Alekseevskaya: 1995, 7.9 km long), bringing to the networct the current asset (3 lines, 38.3 km, 28 stops) with the typhical eastern Europe metro morphology (radial lines forming a ring around the city center.
In long term horizon (2025) some importand extensions are expected, for a possible total network length of 50 km.
