FLORENCE
In Florence works are going on for the construction of a new tram network, based on 3 lines:
- Line T1 (Scandicci-S.M. Novella). This line opened on 14 February 2010; it departs from Scandicci and crosses Arno river by a new bridge, before joining Line 2 and Line 3 at S.M. Novella railway station;
- Line 2 (Peretola Airport-P.za della Libertà). Line 2 allows the direct connection of the airport to the railway station (S.M. Novella), passing through the city center (Via Cerretani, Via Panzani, Duomo, Via Martelli, Via Cavour, Piazza San Marco);
- Line 3 (Careggi-S.M. Novella). Line 3 serves the important Careggi Hospital, besides Rifredi (at Dalmazia stop) and S.M. Novella railway stations.
Line 2 and Line 3 should be realized with a project financing procedure; the majority of Florence inhabitants voted agains't Line 2 and 3 planned track in an advisory referendum on 17-02-2008. Florence municipality inteds to review part of Line 2 (possible withdrawal to S.M. Novella-Duomo-Cavour section) and Line 3 (possible modifications to Careggi terminal section) tracks, before proceeding with the construction.
