Croydon
Croydon (20 km south of London) opened in 2000 one of the european most succesfull LRT systems; even if the annual ridership (20 million) is lightly lower than the project predictions, the line has been soon appreciated by the users and has been a decisive factor in the Croydon territory new development (for example it generated a remarkable increase of the immoveable properties values).
The 28 km track (18 km along an elder railway route) is articulated in 3 routes: Wimbledon-Croydon-New Addington, Croydon-Beckenham Junction, Croydon-Elmers End. A north-western extension (Harrington Road-Cristal Palace) is in advanced planning phase.
