Clermont FerrandClermont-Ferrand has based its transport network mostly on two different tram-on-tyre lines:
- Line nort-south (Line A), which will adopt Translohr trams;
- Line east-west (Line B or "Leo 2000"), which adopts buses with optical guidance (Irisbus Agora).
Line A uses the Siemens optical guidance systems, set up on Agora buses (until december 2004 Irisbus Civis were experimented on the same route).
29% of Clermont Ferrand inhabitants and 41% of employees lie into a 500 m radius from Line A track (the main route), which has been opened on 14 October 2006. Line A passes through the city center and serves many crucial urban polarities, as well as the universtity, high schools, the administrative center and the railway station. Along the route there are some important park&ride areas (close to Croix de Noirat, 1 May, Chu Gabriel Montpied, Margeride and La Pardieu Gare stops).
Some extensions of Line A are expected (towards Vergnes, Gabriel-Montpied Stadium and La Plaine); current plans for a connection to the new SNFC station and for the conversion of Line B to Translohr technology.
