Chemnitz
Chemnitz (important industrial town located in Saxony), as well as Zwickau, manteined the original metric gauge tramway set up during the DDR comunist regime.
At the end of years '90s it was decided to compatibilize the existing tramway and local diesel railways (with the addition of new shared track sections), giving the priority to the railways electrication.
The first route of this new integrated system opened in 2002 (Chemnitz Hbh-Stollberg, 23 km). Chemnitz Hbf-Altchemnitz section is tramlike (600 V CC, mostly running in the city center), while at Altchemnitz there's a system changement, wich proceedes in train mode up to Stollberg (750 V CC on a recently electrified elder single track railway, with electromechanical signalling).
Some important works at Chemnitz Hbh railway station have been planned in order to host future tram-train routes, to be obtained bringing suburban trains into the tramway urban net by new connecting sections.
