Brest
Brest has planned a new tramway line in order to solve its traffic congestion problems: in years '90s road traffic has risen more than 30% against a remarkable reduction of public transport ridership (8%).
The new tram line opened on June 2012; it is mostly aligned along the east-west axis, serving many crucial urban polarities: technopole, road of Conquet, Thales, Kergaradec parking area, the city center (Recouvrance and place de Strasbourg), the Froutven Mall.
Besides the main works concerning the properly-said tram line, the whole project is also constituted by functional integration actions (with the development of new modal interchange and parking points at Château d'Eau, Conquet, Prat Lèdan, Europe, Kergaradec and Froutven stops), by urbanistic plans (place de la Liberté, place de Strasbourg, North-South axius extension, place de la Porte) and complementary plans (plateau des Capucins et de Recouvrance, Saint-Martin district, Europe, Pontanezen and Froutven area).
