DESCRIPTION
Gothenburg tram opened in 1879 (initial horse tram) and from that date it has been continuosly in service; electrification was completed in 1902. The tram system was constantly extended (1944, 1953, 1957, 1959, 1962-1964, 1966, 1968-1970, 1092, 1978-1979, 1982; last extensions opened in 2002 and 2014). During years '60s it was planned to gradually convert the tram system into a LRT/fast tram (similar to premetro/stadtbahn); thus many tram section currently runs segregated from road traffic (in reserved lanes or through limited tunnel segments).
The current tram network consists in 13 ordinary lines, plus an heritage tram line (Lisemberg Line).
