NANCY
Nancy
The first tram-on-tyre line (Transport sur voie reservee or TVR), based on a central rail and power supplied overhead (as the existing trolley-bus system), opened in Nancy at the end of 2000.
Line runs along the transport main axis; in its median position it interchanges with the railway station; thanks to the adoption of rubber-tyres vehicles it has been possible to reach the technologic district of Brabois (overtaking a vertical gradient of 12-13 %).
This innovative transport system has involved in the first months many initial technical problems, some accidents (2001) and temporary suspensions of the service.
After a severe verify phase (mostly concerning the overhead power supply and the line segments designed for the tram/trolley-bus transition) regular operations resumed in 2002, with remarkable riderships (currently 40.000 pax/day).
NOTE: Nancy municipality decided to replace TVR system (both for the existing lines and for the predicted extensions) with a conventional trolleybus system or a tramway (expected completion: 2020)
