Edinburgh
Edinburgh have had a tramway network until 1956, when it was completely dismissed; the scottish town is now planning to re-introduce a modern tramway system. The network will be articulated in 2 lines (Line 1: central circle line; Line 2: western branch from Haymarket to the airport and Newbridge), to be realized in different phases:
- phase 1a: there is an eastern central section from Haymarket to St. Andrew Square passing through Prices Street, serving an highly actractive touristic and commercial area. The track joins
Foot of the Walk bus interchange point, then reachs the docks area (Newhaven terminal), characterized by some important urban expansions (Scottish Executive, Ocean Terminal, Royal Yacht Britannia). The western sections runs outside the city center linking Haymarket to the airport, serving Murrayfield stadium, Edinburgh Park railway station, Gyle commercial center and Ingliston park&ride;
- phase 1b: Haymarket-Granton Square section, serving residential areas, Western General Hospital and Telford College Campus; it runs partly on elder railway alignement;
- phase 2; Granton Square-Newhaven section closes phase 1a and 1b into a ring;
- phase 3; western extension from Ingliston to Newbridge, with an intermediate railway interchange point at Ratho Station.
