BIRMINGHAM
Birmingham Air-Rail is an automated cable system (fixed rope) which operates connecting Birmingham International Airport (5th UK airport, with about 8 millions pax/year) to the Multi Modal Intherchange point at the airport railway station.
This cable systems has replaced a previous magnetic levitation people-mover (Maglev) that has been in service from 1984 to 1995, because of its many technical problems (signalling troubles during snowy days, car body overweight, etc) which caused many service interruptions.
Air-Rail has been realized and operated by Doppelmayr; it consists in two simple and detached 600 m long tracks, without switches and communications between tracks.
